Week 8 - Final Blog

Ok, so I realized through this that I really don't enjoy blogging at all. I dread having to write this blog every Sunday evening, so this is going to be my last posting. I'm going to keep taking the pictures and weighing myself every week, so at the end of the program, I'll send a before and after picture.
This was a crazy busy week for me, and I felt like I was at a point where I wasn't looking forward to the workout anymore, so I decided to take a week off. I did do some walking because I went to the Quail Hollow Golf Tournament, and played 9 holes on my own, but that was the extent of my exercise. Luckily, our A/C unit went out, so I have been able to sweat out any pounds I would have gained! It's 90deg today, and there is only so much a ceiling fan can do to cool it down.
So after 8 weeks of following the P90X exercise program fairly strictly, I successfully lost 0 lbs. Think they are looking for a spokeswoman?

Week 7

I'm definitely hitting the point where I am ready for a change, and the program isn't as exciting as it used to be. It's become a struggle to make myself work out every afternoon. This week I missed two days of the scheduled workout, but I competed in a Urban Race that had us running around the entire city of Charlotte, so I'm calling it even. The race was basically a mini-Amazing Race with 12 clues that we had to figure out and then go to that location to compete in some sort of challenge. Check out their website to see if it is coming near you because it is a good time (and there were people who came with kids in strollers for you moms)! One of our clues was to find 2 strangers to do the YMCA with us, so I posted that picture too since it makes me laugh.

I'm still holding strong not losing any weight. It's amazing that I can work out 6 days per week for over an hour each day and not lose a single pound. If I wasn't taking the weekly pictures to compare the before and after pictures, I would probably be pretty discouraged.

Week 5 - Recovery

So this week's schedule was a recovery week so it was all either cardio, yoga or stretching. It was weird because even though I got my workouts in I felt like a slacker because I wasn't sore all week. It also didn't help that I read on someone's facebook that they started P90X this week and lost 5.5 lbs in 6 days....WTF! I figured since I haven't drank much beer since I started that it would help, but not so much.
I decided to do a comparison this week so the first photo is this weeks, and the photo below it is from before I started. I can see a difference when I compare them side-by-side, so it is making a difference.

Week 4

This was a pretty busy week with the family coming in town for the weekend. Thankfully it wasn't too busy at work, so I was able to get all of my workouts in during the day. I didn't want to wake up my family on Sunday morning to do my kempo (AKA kickboxing), so my neighbors got to watch me do it in my driveway. I'm sure they now think I'm crazy. I somehow only drank 5 beers the entire weekend, which is unheard of when my family gets together, so I deem that a sucess for my nutrition. Hopefully it helped to cancel out the au gratin potatoes, creamed spinach and cheesy corn we ate with our Easter lunch. I weighed myself yesterday afternoon after our huge lunch and delicious desert and didn't like what I saw, so I waited until this morning and weighed myself again with better results.
This week was almost injury free except for one fall on my head during yoga. Seriously, who can do this pose below without falling. This picture will have to hold you over because I was too lazy to do take mine yesterday and I don't know if Joe will be home at a reasonable time this week to take them for me.

Both have decreased, so maybe the trick is to weigh myself first thing in the morning before I eat anything.

Week 3 - Improvement

Ok, I made it through a week of P90X without an injury. Well, I thought that on week 1 too and didn't feel my injury until Monday morning, so maybe I shouldn't count my chickens before they are hatched. The good news is that the second time through the DVDs was much easier than the first. I am still sore, but not nearly as bad as the first week. I am doing one more week of the same 6 work-outs, and then I'll add more strength exercises starting next week.
My goal is to be able to do 1 pull up by the end of the program because I am not even close right now. I have to stand on a chair and kind of pull myself up, but it's really hard to do that without cheating by just straightening your legs.
My food choices were not that great again this week. I had to travel again, and I have decided that it is impossible for me to eat out for 2 days straight without getting french fries. And, I saw the bartender making a drink with Peach Firefly at about 2pm, so I had to have a drink because I can't pass up that stuff! This coming week will coming will be a challenge to keep up because the family is coming in for the holiday. We'll see if I get any exercise in over the weekend or not.

So I'm not sure what is more all over the place, the scale or my weight. I'm going to go scale because it makes me feel better.

Week 2 - Injury

So this week was not off to a good start. I tried to do my core muscles workout on Monday morning, and it felt like I had a torn muscle in my lower stomach. I thought maybe if I switch to one of the cardio workouts instead it wouldn't hurt as bad, but no such luck. I have no idea when I pulled it because it didn't bother me all weekend, but it got to the point where it was really painful to even sit up in bed. So that being said, it was not a great week for P90X.
I tried running and that didn't bother my stomach muscles, so I was able to get 3 miles in on Monday through Thursday. I didn't get in any workouts over the weekend, but I posted a picture to prove that I wasn't just laying around. Joe and I decided to cut down some trees in our yard, so I spent two days lugging around logs. We were successful in our first attempt with a chainsaw judged by the fact that there were no injuries.
I still haven't seen any weight loss based on my first reading, but I still think that was too low. I'm traveling for work to beautiful Albany, Georgia (I know, I've never heard of it either) this week so hopefully I'm able to figure out how to get my workouts in.

Week 1 - Torture

I didn't know that it was possible to have every muscle in your body hurt at the same time. I have only done 6 of the 12 DVDs and I'm doing the more cardio based program, but I'm pretty sure I've already hit every muscle in my body. My schedule consisted of : Monday - Core Exercises, Tuesday - Arms & Shoulders, Wednesday - Cardio, Thursday - Yoga, Friday - Legs & Back, and Saturday - Kempo (It is basically kickboxing, but Joe says that I have to call it Kempo because he did it with me and Kempo sounds "tougher" than kickboxing).
I've enjoyed it all so far because it is something new, but yoga was 90 minutes, and I was getting antsy knowing how long I had to commit. One of the neat things about the DVDs is that they have a countdown for each exercise, so you know how how long you have to go. I definitely have a ways to go because I can't keep up right now, especially on the abs. And during the legs and back workout they probably did over 100 pull ups...which is a problem since I can't even do one! My goal is to be able to do one full pull up by the end of the program.
So my diet did not go as well as my exercising this week. I think I ate more fried food this week than I have since the beginning of the year. It started with a last minute trip to Savannah for work during a rainstorm. The only place nearby for dinner once I arrived was a Five Guys Burgers, so dinner consisted of a cheeseburger and fries. Then I forgot my power cord for my computer, so I couldn't get my workout in that morning. So the next day I had to drive home and wasn't passing anything but fast food on the highway so I decided to get a grilled chicken sandwich...only to find out when I opened the bag that they gave me a big mac. I have made it 28 years without every eating a big mac and I had no intention of ever changing that. We went to our annual St Patties Day party yesterday, so I drank plenty of beer and got 4th meal at midnight (but I decided it doesn't count as 4th meal because I never ate dinner)! The only thing I know to do after a night of drinking is to eat a fast food breakfast and a Philly cheese steak and fries for lunch. So, needless to say, hopefully next week will bring better eating habits!

I think I'm going to have to start weighing myself on Mondays for more consistency. I was a little skeptical about my weight last week because I thought the weight was too low, and I'm hoping that my results from this week confirm that. I also wonder how accurate our home scale is going to be, or if I am going to have large variances every week.
